Talking points for Board of Supervisors meeting 3/19/13
* Percentage of Stafford County’s budget devoted to schools and our children’s education has decreased by 5.2% in the past ten years.
* To compare apples to apples, in the past five years student enrollment has increased by 3% while percentage of county’s budget for schools has decreased 2.2%
* Stafford County is ranked 86th out of the 132 districts (that the National Center for Education and Statistics had data from) in Virginia for per pupil spending. Stafford County, the 12th richest county in the nation, ranks 87th in the state of Virginia in per pupil spending.
* Stafford Schools largest employer in the county – 67.7% of employees are Stafford County residents who spend their money in the county and VOTE
* County lists Schools as a priority but continues to underfund them.
* A strong School System is part of what is attracting businesses and developers to Stafford County. If the School System continues to loose highly qualified and veteran teachers to surrounding counties, our Schools will not stay strong.
* Part of what has attracted our Military families to retire and settle in Stafford has been strong schools, but without adequate funding, this will not continue.
