Time to Rally!

Posted by Admin On 4/15/2015
The VEA-PTA Put Kids First Rally in Richmond is this Saturday......weather is supposed to be beautiful!!! Won't you please join your friends, neighbors and others from around the Commonwealth, who all care about public education. Let's have a huge crowd to show how we feel about electing leaders who support a strong Virginia education system.

If you would like to leave the driving to us and ride a charter bus from the Stafford School Board office, simply call 1-800-552-9554 or email RallyBusConfirmation@veanea.org. With 3 days left this is the fastest way to make certain you have a reserved seat on the bus. The bus will leave the School Board parking lot at 11 A.M. Saturday morning. You are welcome to bring coolers with food and drinks so you don't have to worry about being hungry. Feel free to print the fliers or share them with others. I hope to see you there.

SEA President

Rally is Family Event!

Posted by Admin On 3/12/2015
Haven't marked your calendar for April 18th?  Well, now is the time!  Put Kids First Rally is a family friendly event where kids will enjoy many activities, as well as participate in making history in the capitol of Virginia!

Nutsy The Flying Squirrel, mascot for San Francisco Giants Double A Baseball affiliate in Richmond, will be available for autographs and pictures at Richmond Convention Center, our Staging Area.  Also planned: Bouncy House, 18 Foot Tall Slide, Bouncy House Obstacle Course and more.

Thank you to our NEA for contributing $50,000 for buses to get supporters of Virginia's students to Richmond!  VEA is organizing the buses to transport participants (kids, too!) to the Richmond Staging Area.  We'll meet at the School Board Offices parking lot in time to load buses at 12:30 P.M. and plan to return to Stafford around 6:00 P.M.  Leave the driving to VEA!!!  Of course, if you'd like to drive yourself, we suggest you carpool and meet up with the buses before they pull out.

Be sure to fill out a commitment card or register on the Put Kids First web page.  You can also find additional information on their website, including promotional materials to handout to all of your family and friends.  Consider asking the businesses you frequent to share information with their employees and customers.  Don't have a commitment card?  Contact your building representative or call SEA/VEA at 540-361-7011.

More information to come!

General Assembly Takes Action

Posted by Admin On 3/12/2015
The two houses of the Virginia legislature came to agreement on the state budget last week, proposing three major items that support schools in the 2015-16 budget.

  • 1.5% salary increases for SOQ positions for 10.5 months.  Localities have to provide matching funds.
  • Fund a one-time payment to VRS Teacher Retirement Plan, which will reduce the unfunded liability to approximately $13.5 billion.
  • Set aside approximately $53 million for School Construction Loans, which have not been funded for several years.

Superintendent presents Funding Request 2015-16 to

Board of Supervisors, at County Courthouse

Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 7 P.M.

Please wear red and attend this meeting to show the BOS that Stafford citizens and SCPS staff are very concerned that our school system is being underfunded.  Even though enrollment and classroom size has increased, funding has declined by 15% since 2009.  We are asking the BOS to focus on reallocating existing county funds to support our children, students and staff.
